At Spirit of the Dragon we are always excited to hear about youth taking an active role in preventing bullying, promoting healthy lifestyles and taking the time to help others in their community (or anywhere for that matter).   So we thought is would be great to be able to acknowledge all of those Community Warriors who go out of their way to do good for others.

We thought it would be even greater if we could award some of them for their good deed doings.  So we have gotten together some great prizes for our Community Warriors.
What is a Community Warrior?  A community Warrior is someone who takes time to do good things, simple as that.  Community Warriors work to make the world a better place in so many different ways.  So, you don't kneed to don your Body Armor or wear your cape to be a Community Warrior (but if you feel the need to do so, that would totally Rock!)

How does it work?  Pretty simple, you do some good deeds and we would love to post your picture in our Community Warriors Gallery and let everyone know how you are willing to do awesome things.  You will also be entered to win some cool prizes.
Is this for Individuals Or Class rooms? Both actually.  You can enter as an individual to win some fun prizes or you can enter your class room to win the epic Xtreme Class Wind Up.  You can enter with your class and as an individual too - we love to see Warriors doing double duty!!

Shouldn't we do these things without Prizes?  Well,  of course we love when people do awesome things without asking for a reward - that is really a Community Warrior.  But, we know there are so many youth doing good things everyday (and never asking for anything in return) that we thought it would be nice to thank them.  Yes, we know some will enter the contest just for the prizes (we are totally on to that).  But, what we also know is that doing a good deed has so many wicked awesome side effects that it makes it totally worth while.  Doing a good deed makes the Good Deed Doer feel great about themselves, it makes other feel great seeing the good deeds and it spreads an amazing feeling of good will to everyone affected.  So not only may this see more Warriors out doing good deeds we will also be able to thank them, and give some cool prizes to the lucky chosen Community Warriors.

What are some Good Deed Ideas?  There are tons of things you can do (but of course you need to ask permission for many of these things)
- pick up trash from your parks or neighbourhood
- donate time visiting with seniors or bake treats for a senior complex
- offer to wash someone's car, mow their lawn, sweep their walkway
- donate your toys to a shelter, give your outgrown clothes to the needy
- donate food to the pet shelters, offer to walk a neighbours dog
- volunteer at a soup kitchen, Salvation Army or other volunteer organizations
- read to young children, tutor children
- make someone notes thanking them for the jobs they do
- make a treat or a thank you card for your teacher, doctor, resource officer or others who help support our community
- run a lemonade stand and donate the proceeds to a good cause

Check out the Rules tab for more info and the Prizes tab for a list of prizes.

Who can enter?  Although we love community Warriors of all ages, this contest is open to individuals and classrooms from Pre-K through Grade 12.
How do I to enter as an individual?  Pretty simple, get your parents permission, do some good deeds and tell us about it and send us your photo (if you are camera shy, we don't really need your photo).
How do I enter my classroom?  Almost as simple - but you will need to discuss with your teacher and get a game plan about what your classmates want to do for good deeds.  You can choose to do individual good deeds or get together and share some awesomeness as a group.  Then, your teacher can share your deeds and send in some photos to get your class entered.
Can I enter more than once? Absolutely - the more good deeds the better.  You can enter with your class and as an individual too.   If you decide to do more good deeds after you enter, just let us know and we will add them to your first entry.
What are requirements for good deeds?  First thing, you have to do is ask your parent's permission and make sure you have permission to do what you are planning - painting your neighbours house with out asking might seem like a good idea at the time, but.....might not be appreciated by your neighbour.
And, remember your good deeds can't be for yourself.  We think it is great that you clean your room, brush your teeth or buy yourself a new toy, but not exactly Community Warrior material.  Your deeds need to be done for someone else or the community, with out asking for payment or a reward.  So plan a good deed that helps someone else out or makes your community a better place.
How are the winners chosen?  All entries will be reviewed and judged by our Community Warriors judges panel.  Winners will be chose based on the deeds they have done and the impact they have.  A person who bakes cookies for a seniors centre will get more points than someone who picks up one piece of garbage on their way to school, obviously!!
Age will also be considered in our judging - our judges will be looking for something different  from a grade 8 class entry than a Pre-K class.
Winners may be asked to provide verification of their good deeds.
When is the deadline? Deadline for entries is May 31.  Winners will be announced June 2.
