The day was filled with sparring, forms, weapons and even some cutting and ice breaking events. There were tons of medals handed out and many smiles as athletes of all ages stood proud on the podium after their big wins. One division was a little heavy on athletes from Spirit of the Dragon as their four athletes took the top four spots and filled the podium. The 8-9 year old Orange and Green Belt forms was a clean sweep for the SOTD Competition team and they were, obviously, very proud. What their coaches were even more proud of though, was about what happened next. In this division, there was a boy from a competing school who didn't place and was quite upset. Elly, an Orange Belt from SOTD, saw this and felt the need to do something about it. Showing true Martial Arts spirit and sportsmanship, Elly decided to give this little boy one of her medals in hopes of cheering him up. She told her dad that she wanted to cheer him up and that she had lots of medals at home. Of course he agreed and Elly managed to help one of her competitors have a great day even after a loss in his division. The Spirit of the Dragon coaches couldn't be more proud of Elly for demonstrating what Martial Arts is truly about. It is more than fighting or self defence and it is more than just winning medals. It is about showing compassion, sportsmanship and looking out for others. It is about being a better person and making the world a better place through our actions. Congrats to Elly and the SOTD team for another great tournament competition. More Fun Stuff.... |
