TEENS (ages 11-14yrs)
Finding a way for children in the Tween and Teen years to stay active can be a difficult task. Martial Arts is a great way for teens to learn valuable self defense skills, develop a sense of pride and develop life long skills.
Our instructors not only provide students with drills and activities to build their physical skills, but also provide the motivation, support and positive reinforcement that many teens need to succeed.
Even in today’s ‘anti-bullying’ age, 1 in 3 children in this age category report being a victim of recent bullying. Our programs teach children various ways to avoid being a victim. Not only do students learn how to avoid falling victim to bullies, they also learn the self control and compassion to stand up for themselves without becoming a bully themselves. Alternatives such as verbal and physical de-escalation skills are a focus in all of our children's and teen programs.
In today's information age, teens are facing more influence from the media and peer pressure than ever before. Martial Arts is a great way to help students become more self-assured, confident and able to make good decisions when faced with difficult situations. The fitness component in each class not only teaches children how to, but also why it is important to maintain one’s fitness level.
In addition to traditional Martial arts, the Teen's class incorporates regular lessons from both the Standing Tall Bully Prevention and Street Smart Self Defense programs.
A brief idea of what we see our Youth develop:
- the confidence to deal with peer pressure
- increased fitness and energy
- the skills and confidence to deal with bullying situations
- pride and confidence that comes with mastering new skills
- a great way to meet new friends and mentors
- the opportunity to participate in leadership and mentoring programs
